RESCUE COMPANY RESPONDS TO LOWER LAVALE FOR 1 TRAPPED

ON NOVEMBER 15, 2024 AT 05:45 HOURS, RESCUE BOX 2-1 WAS DROPPED FOR THE MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT WITH 1 TRAPPED IN THE 50 BLOCK OF NATIONAL HIGHWAY. ALLEGANY COUNTY ECC RECEIVED A CALL FOR A 2 VEHICLE ACCIDENT INVOLVING A VEHICLE UNDER A TRACTOR TRAILER. FIRST ARRIVING EMS UNITS CONFIRMED 1 SEDAN UNDER THE TRAILER PORTION OF A FLAT BED TRACTOR TRAILER WITH THE DRIVER PINNED. RESCUE 2 & ENGINE TANKER 2 (LAVALE) ARRIVED ON SCENE AND BEGAN SETTING UP FOR LIFTING OPERATIONS AND CHIEF 2 ESTABLISHED COMMAND. ENGINE TANKER 5 (CORRIGANVILLE) AND RESCUE 3 (BEDFORD ROAD) ARRIVED AND BEGAN SETTING UP FOR WINCH OPERATIONS. RESCUE 3 UTILIZING THE FRONT WINCH AND A NEARBY TELEPHONE POLE AS A CHANGE OF DIRECTION SET UP TO WINCH THE VEHICLE OUT. RESCUE 2 CREW SET UP AN AIRBAG SYSTEM UNDER THE TRAILER, WHILE THE CREW FROM RESCUE 3 SECURED THE SUSPENSION OF THE SEDAN TO PREPARE FOR WINCHING.

RESCUE 2 LIFTED THE TRAILER APPROXIMATELY 3 INCHES OFF THE GROUND AND THE SEDAN WAS THEN WINCHED OUT AND REMOVED FROM UNDER THE TRAILER. CREWS THEN WENT TO WORK TO EXTRICATE THE DRIVER. THE RESCUE COMPANIES REMOVED THE SIDE WALL FROM THE DIRVERS SIDE TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE PATIENT, ONCE ACCESS WAS GAINED, CREWS USING THEIR HURST JAWS OF LIFE RESCUE TOOLS PERFORMED A DASH LIFT TO FREE THE PATIENT'S LEGS. THE PATIENT WAS THEN TURNED OVER TO EMS.

CHIEF 2 HELD THE NATIONAL HWY COMMAND

Units: RESCUE 2, RESCUE 3, ENGINE TANKER 2, ENGINE TANKER 5, MEDIC 517, MEDIC 518, AMBULANCE 371, EMS SUPERVISOR, SAFETY OFFICER
